Primusgatan

Refreshing a dated apartment in Stockholm.

PROJECT Primusgatan

Location Stolckhom, Sweden

Keywords RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

SUBJECT

Designed for a young professional couple who had recently purchased their first home in Stockholm, the aim of this project was to brighten up a dull and compartmentalized apartment, while paying homage to its Scandinavian roots.

CHALLENGE

The existing space felt dated and cramped, with the distribution divided off into many small rooms. The client saught an open concept layout that would create a more relaxed flow and finishes that would make the space feel comtemporary and fresh.

SOLUTION

The kitchen walls were demolished to open up the space to the living area, allowing more light to flow in from the windows to the now interconnected social space. Walls were given a bright coat of eggshell, and floors were replaced with a modest oak parquet, to create a neutral yet inviting blank canvas on which to begin layering on.

A large sectional in a warm-grey fabric is the living space’s protagonist, wrapping around a statement latte coloured Brescia stone coffee table. A lacquered oak dining table connects the two spaces together, adding warmth to a cobalt blue kitchen with cream granite counter tops. Cheeky textures of jute, caramel coloured suede, wicker, and patterned wool add a sense of play to an otherwise dreamy and neutral colour palette.
